Why we exist
Smartphones have become an extension of ourselves, and as we become increasingly dependent on these devices we have been left open to attack. Our mobiles know so much about us; where we are, what we see, what we like. We have unknowingly allowed third parties to invade our privacy, peer into our mobile lives, harvest, siphon and sell our personal and valuable data to the highest bidder.
Would you let a stranger into your home? Would you then allow that stranger to go through your belongings? Well that’s exactly what these third party trackers are doing at mass scale on your devices. We at Gate Guardian believe this is wrong.
Privacy is a right
In 1948, the United Nations declared privacy as a fundamental human right.
“No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.” United Nations Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) 1948,
Essential to autonomy and the protection of human dignity, privacy serves as the foundation upon which other human rights are built. Privacy helps us establish boundaries to limit who has access to our bodies, places and things, as well as our communications and our information.
